I was desperately in need of a whole house filter system on our well water supply. There’s no bacteria but, since recently moving into the home, we have had bad smells and red rust stains. Initially, I was able to flush the well long enough to remove the bulk of the rust particles which made the water literally red. I also replaced the filter media in the water softener, which after 17 years or so, was black, nasty and ineffective. However, while a glass of water now appeared nice and clear straight from the tap, overnight the water turned a brown color as the dissolved iron “rusted†out of solution. The iSpring system seemed to fit the bill. I’ve now got the system up and running.Disappointingly, when the system arrived, one of the blue filter housings was broken internally. Theres a small cylindrical molding in the bottom of the housing that appears to be heat-welded in place. It was broken off. The filter element inside was still in its wrapping, which is pierced by the molding when the element is pushed into the housing for shipping. It seems that that process broke off the cylinder. A call to iSpring on the Wednesday got a replacement housing on order. When it arrived the next week, it was a completely different housing! Contacting iSpring again and sending photos of the required housing had another one on its way - thanks to Nick. (iSpring are very easy to work with and very reactive). This time it was the correct one, but it cost about a week and a half in time. I now have some big housings that Im sure I can find a use for in my workshop as storage! The time delay was not a problem as I had to order a special fitting from TrueValue. I went with Sharkbite fittings and PEX tubing for ease of assembly. Unfortunately, a 1" male thread to a 3/4" Push To Connect fitting is not available in any hardware stores. My systems connection points are 3/4" CPVC and 3/4" copper tubing. That fitting took as long as the housing to come! The Sharkbite approach essentially doubled the cost of the filter system itself, (total parts cost ended up at $907), but saved time and allowed for some easy redesign/refinement as the installation progressed.I suggest you use thread sealant on the NPT threaded fittings. I had a couple leaks at the final test that required sealant to stop them. I have always had trouble with PTFE taped joints and should have used the sealant from the get-go. The Sharkbite Push To Connect fittings worked perfectly first time - impressive. Other reviewers mention the joint between the two filter heads leaks. I didn’t see that (yet), though having removed the bracket the joint could rotate without too much effort.I did have some copper tubing to make up from the accumulator to the WGB22BM, made more complicated as I am adding a spur to later put in an outside faucet, fed directly from the well. Cutting and soldering takes much longer than PEX!I fitted the WSP-50 sediment strainer upstream of the WGB22BM to pre-filter out the well water’s larger particles. The instructions suggest you can screw it directly into the first filter head of the WGB22BM as it has a 1" male thread. However, to do this the mounting bracket has to be removed because the strainer body interferes with it before the joint is tight. I tried to loosen the bolts and slide the slotted bracket over, but it was too tight. The reason was that the slots in the metal bracket dont actually match the holes in the filter heads! The slots are out of position and the slots edge actually sits in the bottom of the thread in the self-tapping bolts - disappointing design / quality issue that could have been addressed. Having removed the bracket, I then found the sediment filter bottomed out in the filter head before getting tight enough! A quick trip to the store for a 1" male-male nipple and a 1" female-female adapter. This time the sediment strainer fitted OK, though that was the location of the later leaks.I added pressure gauges to each side of the filter system to tell if the elements are blocked and need replacement. I have a 50-35 psi well pump pressure and see no noticeable drop in pressure across the system with clean elements and the tub faucet open.I also added a 3/4" - 3/4" - 1/4" stop tee to be able to sample the water after the filter system and before the water softener.I didnt fit the filter elements until after Id tested the system and addressed the couple leaks at the threads.Note that you will need Silicone grease (per iSpring) to lubricate the element housing threads and O-rings (instructions say DO NOT USE PETROLEUM JELLY). Fortunately, I have a tube of that grease (Thanks to Harbor Freight). Now the system is up and running, its doing what was intended - removing the bad odor as well as the dissolved and sediment rust from our well water. The water is crystal clear and tastes great. The water softener was removing a lot of the rust, but that reduces the life of the media inside the softener and doesnt help with the smell and taste.I will be doing a water quality test in a few days after the system has settled down and the hot water tank is flushed through with clean water and will update this review. My only concern is how long the filters last. The sediment strainer is working well and is so easy to drain the particles out into a bucket. The Carbon and Iron elements arent cheap (~$130-150) and replacing them too often is not going to be an easy pill to swallow. "Replace every 3 to 6 months" per iSpring isnt going to work for me. That’s too loose a guideline. I’ll use the pressure gauges and a water quality test kit, probably taking the system just beyond its filtering capability to minimize cost.UPDATE: After a day or so, the water is very clean. Unfortunately, I only had one set of test strips left from my “LabTech H20 OK†kit which I used a couple months ago to test the well water. I would have preferred to test the water at the well, just after the filters and after the water softener at the same time. However, the tap water is the most important test. Here are the results in PPM’s. The first reading is the well water, the second is the tap water after the WGB22BM and the water softener…Total Hardness: 100 0Total Chlorine: 0 0Alkalinity: 40 40pH: 6 6Nitrates/Nitrites: 0 0Copper: 1.0 0.6Iron: 5 0So, the system is doing exactly what I wanted. Awesome!

Where can replacement filters be purchased?
You could search for the filter packs with the SKUs. What is the advantage of having a 20” filter over a 10” on the residential water filtration system wgb21b?The flow rate will be slightly faster but not much difference to be noticed on both the 20\" and 10\" since they have the same size of inlets/outlets and micron size. The difference will be in filter lifespan. The bigger the filter, the more room you'll have for the trapped/filtered contaminants so it will extend the filter replacement schedule. It's best to know the levels of contaminants you have to determine which filter system is best for your water situation. Please reach out to our customer service team at 678-261-7611 (M-F, 8;30 - 5:30 EST) for further assistance. Can I use this to filter a 3,600-gallon pool?Yes, you can use this to filter a pool. Will this residential water treatment system eliminate the formation of pink biofilm? This whole house water filter system will reduce scale buildup but the pink biofilm is normally an indication of airborne bacteria which can causes this. Is there a whole house system for tannin in the water? We apologize as we do not offer a filter for the whole house system that will remove Tannin content. If we only use about 40,000 gallons per year, can the filter last 2.5 years or does the whole home water filter degrade or spoil over time?We would recommend regardless of usage to replace the filters per the recommended 6 to 12 months. Is water direction through filter labeledThe unit is labeled at the top for the inlet an outlet but the filter cartridges are multidirectional and can be installed in either direction. Does this water filter system for home out fluoride? This entire house water filter system does not remove fluoride. Fluoride is a contaminant that can only be removed by a reverse osmosis membrane filter. Will these blue canisters fit on the black housings of the wgb21b system? The housings for WGB22B will not fit the head machine of the WGB21B System. Does these home water treatment systems have a clear cover for the fiber filter so that I can see the dirt being trapped? This full house water filter system has blue filter housings and is not available with clear housings. If you need a home water system with clear housing on the first stage, please consider our WCB32C model Well was tested and everything is within acceptable levels. We get the occasional red streak in the toilet. Is the basic 2-stage water filter for home good enough? It should help, but the exact amounts it removes will depend on you're overall water quality and the cause of the discoloration. If iron is the cause of the colored stains, we suggest looking at the WGB22BM , WGB32BM , or WCFM500K whole house system Do these filters remove bacteria from well water? No. It is recommended to add a UVF55FS Ultraviolet Filter for your well water. Will this whole house filter system out pfas?PFAS is best removed by a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system This system will NOT remove PFAS from your water source. Does this ispring whole house water filtration system remove microorganisms such as coliform and e -coli?No, this whole house water filtration system would not be able to help with these types of contaminants. You would need to look into getting a UV filter like our UVF55FS Will this home water system reduce acid in water that eats copper pipes? This home water filtration system is not designed to remove acidity from your source water and does NOT affect PH in any way. Will this whole house filtration system rid the sulfer smell ? I am on an artesian wellYes this home water filtration system can remove Nitrates which normally cause the sulfur smell or odors. What size are the plumbing fittings? The whole home water filtration system has 1\" NPT for the inlet and outlet from the system. Depending on your home's plumbing or pipe size will determine the size plumbing fittings you may need. We have silica in our city water will this filter any of that outUnfortunately, this whole house water system will not remove silica. You would need a reverse osmosis system like our RCC7 for that. What is the difference between this system and the ispring wgb21b 2-stage whole house water system? Will this ispring water filter system reduce water pressure?Everything is the same except the filters in the 21B are 10\" instead of 20\". Once installed and used properly, our whole house water filtration systems should have a minimum impact on water pressure. Is any salt required with this ispring water filter system? This whole house system is not a water softener system, and does NOT require salt for operation. Why won't this ispring water filter system reduce TDS if the filtered water is clean? This unit removes a wide range of contaminants but the minerals left on the water get broken down into smaller particles which can sometimes cause the TDS to remain the same or even increase. The only filters that can reduce the TDS are reverse osmosis or a deionization filter. You can get a reverse osmosis system here Does this ispring water filter system filter nitrates?Unfortunately, the only way to remove nitrates from water is through reverse osmosis. What is the part number and where can i purchase the replacement o-rings. also is there a specific silicon oil recommended to lubricate the o-rings?The replacement o-rings you are looking for are part #ORBX2. Any food grade plumbers lubricant can be used on the o-rings. Will these ispring home water systems reduce or remove iron from the water? In order to significantly reduce the Iron in your water I would recommend that you take a look at our system WGB32BM which features an iron reducing filter. If your iron level is above 3 ppm, please consider our WCFM500K whole house iron filter Would this be placed before or after a water softener system? Before the water softener, because as a water filter it will remove a wide spectrum of contaminants from water, leaving much cleaner water going to the softener, and protects it. Just FYI, traditional water softeners do not remove contaminants from the water but only exchange hardness irons with \"soft\" sodium ions, which makes the water salty and may cause health issues. A reverse osmosis water filter can purify the water and make it ideal for drinking. |
