The filter is now installed and is working well for several weeks. It is very easy to use, and although it seems like changing the filters will be a pain, it only has to be done between every 6 months to a year. I tested our tap water with a PPM meter and it was in the 40s (actually not bad), but after running through the RO system it is down to 14 PPM (probably would be closer to 0 without the trace minerals added back in by the system).The installation however, was not a piece of cake, and it took my husband and I close to a day to complete (and we are pretty handy). We already had an extra hole in our sink, so we didnt have to drill that, but because we live in NYC we did have to drill though the metal drain pipe (which apparently is only required in NYC).The most difficult thing however, was troubleshooting the system, where it was stopped up in several places. The instructions are sub par (and not specific to having the pump or the additional mineral filters), and the company is not available on the weekend for tech support. The plastic tubes need to be pushed in a a full 1/2", farther than it seems necessary, or they will leak (which happened with all of our connections). In addition, several of the connections that were set at the factory were faulty, and we had to take them all apart and put them back together to get them to work. So, an incredibly frustrating day all around. Also, even after draining the first tank per the instructions, the second tank had a milkiness to it that didnt dissipate, so we had to drain the tank a second time. By the third tank the water was clear. The taste isnt amazing, but it beats tap water. My husband also likes to run it through the Brita as well, which he says makes it taste better.One very important thing to note, although there are systems that will work on water pressure alone, this system will not work without power to the pump, so make sure it is plugged in when youre ready to test the system. Also, the pump will only pump when it senses a lack of pressure, so if youre troubleshooting you may need to drain parts of the system to get the pump to activate after troubleshooting.Now that its installed, we like it a lot, and we havent had any issues. The faucet is attractive. We did set up the leak detector, but we havent had any leaks. I usually take a large bottle of the filtered water with me to work, and I have noticed I drink less water overall; the RO water doesnt make me thirsty like regular water. Considering that I used to drink tons of water (way more than necessary), this is a huge improvement.
