I bought this because our Security Colorado water supply was contaminated and unsafe to drink. We did what everyone else did and bought bottled water, it was expensive and a constant plastic mess, my kids left half drank bottles of water all over the house. I did some research and learned the only water filter system that would remove the PFC contaminates from our drinking water was reverse osmosis. After watching some videos and reading several articles I decided that every house in should probably have reverse osmosis. I selected and purchased the iSpring RCC7 WQA Gold Seal Certified 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filter System because of the enormous amount of positive reviews, the systems affordability, the low cost of replacement filters, and the ease of installation. My only concern was the runoff water but I purchased a separate Permeate Pump which solved the problem of excessive waste water. The system installation went fairly smooth, when they say to push the 1/4 inch hose firmly into the T connectors they arent kidding. We charged the system and it started to leak from the first fitting, we shut off the supply water and discovered that we hadnt pushed any of the connectors in far enough. So after we manned up and muscled the connectors the system pressurized perfectly. We bled the air out of the European style faucet which I personally really like and then shut down the system to install the permeate pump which was also fairly easy. One more 5 minute round of bleeding the air and we opened the water storage tank. It took about a hour and a half to completely fill the water storage tank, during which time we made several leak checks, not a single drop. We changed out the filter in our refrigerator and purged the water supply tank through the refrigerator. I couldnt help but notice our refrigerator pressure was greatly increased which was a pleasant bonus. Our before test 187 PPM and after was 7 PPM. (PPM - particles per million) A month later I installed an identical reverse osmosis system at my parents house. It went much faster and smoother the 2nd time around and yielded the same results with the exception that their refrigerator pressure didnt change? Their before 192 PPM and after 8 PPM A year later before we changed the filters test 17 PPM after we changed the Stage 1,2,and 3 filters as per the directions we got 7 PPM at both houses. CONS: Some waste water, with the permeate pump our waste water was cut considerably. With both houses we saw no apparent increase in our water bill or water usage. Filters, a necessary evil but compared to the cost of refrigerator replacement filters these are a real bargain. We havent changed our refrigerator filter since the install but decided we should probably change it every two years to be on the safe side. PROS: Your health, your families health, the peace of mind of knowing that even if your home town water company is not being proactive in publically reporting their findings because the ground water contamination is within EPA guidelines for safe drinking water that your family wont be getting poisoned for years unknowingly until the EPA lowers the guidelines and they are forced to report that your water has been questionably safe for the last couple of years. Regardless of where we live in the future we will never not have this in our home.
