iSpring RCC7AK High Capacity Under Sink 6-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filtration System with Alkaline Remineralization - WQA Gold Seal Certified (NSF/ANSI 58)We moved to Beverly Mass a few months ago and had no filtration system on the city water. We were buying bottled spring water for drinking without thinking too much about it. Then for heating season we were running city water in a humidifier. After only a few weeks the heating element was a total mess of brownish goo. That was the motivation for getting purer water at home.The iSpring unit had good enough reviews and seemed like what we wanted from a feature and cost standpoint. We went with the RCC7AK since it had the remineralization stage. Also, the brushed nickel faucet would go perfectly in our kitchen.We decided to install the unit in the basement directly under the kitchen. This saves space in the kitchen which is always good. Under the kitchen sink there was a hookup for the refrigerator ice maker with a separate cutoff valve already in place. I disconnected that and hooked up the red line down to the iSpring. Then I brought the blue line up from the iSpring and teed that to the refrigerator and to the new faucet. Under the sink I used heavy duty compression hose connectors and not the lightweight push-on connectors. Then if someone is pushing stuff around under the sink we dont have to worry about a leaking connection.Down in the basement I made another modification to the stock installation. I put in a tee on the yellow line to the storage tank and sent that to another faucet at the basement sink. This gives me a source for the pure reverse osmosis water before it goes through the remineralization stages. That water is perfect for the humidifiers. There is no white powder everywhere near the ultrasonic humidifier and the vaporizer humidifier which had the brown goo is perfectly clean.I had some trouble with leaking hoses and the push-on connections. The key to getting them to work for me was to dress the hoses so that there was no strain on them and the hoses went straight into the connectors. I had to recut some hose lengths to get that right and then they worked great. Its really handy being able to disconnect and reconnect the hoses with the push-on connectors.The instruction manuals that come with the system are first class. There are clear pictures. The instructions are grouped so that you can do a few steps to complete a subtask as you progress to the complete installation. That said the system has a lot going on and some experience in doing fresh water hookups will speed your day. The system comes with a bunch of spare water connection parts that can come in really handy if something is dropped or lost during the install. It took me about three hours to get the basic system up and running.We have had the system in place for about five weeks. We are using a gallon a day from the kitchen tap for coffee or drinking and more if cooking demands it. Then we are using three or four gallons a day for humidifiers. That usage will decline as heating season ends. So far we are really pleased with the iSpring unit.Im attaching a video of my system.
